The minimum training requirements to become a Ski Patroller at Mont Ripley
consist of:
- Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC)
OEC is a 4 month training program consisting of atleast 100 hours
of classroom and practical training in managing outdoor emergency
situations. Successful completion of the OEC training requires a passing
score on nationally standardized written and practical examinations. This
material must be refreshed by all patrollers every year prior to the ski
season.
- CPR for Healthcare Providers
CPR training is required for all ski patrollers and this training is
administered by licensed AHA instructors each year. It is a 1 day course
that must be refreshed on a yearly basis.
- Ski & Toboggan Training (S&T)
S&T is a 9 week training program designed to enable students to safely
transport injured guests to the bottom of the hill using specialized
transportation equipment. This training emphasizes exceptional sking ability
(PSIA level 7 and higher) and managing hazardous emvironments. Successful
completion of the S&T training requires a passing score on both a skiing and
a toboggan handing practical examination. This material must be refreshed by
all patrollers every year during the ski season.
- Chairlift Evacuation Training
Charlift evac training consists of a 1 day training course that focuses on
safely evacuating a chairlift that has shut down unexpectedly. This material
must be refreshed by all patrollers every year prior to the ski season.
